6 Best Indoor Electric Grills 2019 – Reviews

#1. T-fal GC70 Indoor Electric Grill – Top Pick

This indoor grill is very unique hence we rank it as our Top Pick. T-fal GC70 is the best indoor grill for steaks. We really like its automatic sensor cooking feature. The grill automatically detects whatever you place on its surface and adjust the temperature and cooking time.

The indicator light and beep system enabled you to track the meat as it cooked. To our surprise, this feature actually worked very well. We double-checked the temperatures of the meats when the grill told us they were done and did find that they were at the optimal temperature.

We also liked how easy it is to clean this indoor grill. The grilling pans are nonstick, so whatever you cook will not make more of a mess than necessary. The pads do slide out of the grill and can be put into the dishwasher. This feature prevents you from having to scrub the system by hand. Instead, you can slide the pads out and put them in the dishwasher.

It does come with a 1-year warranty. But, this grill doesn’t seem to last longer than one year. The mechanism that measures how thick the food tends to break. You can recalibrate the machine, but to get the instructions you have to contact the manufacturer. This can get quite tiresome, especially when all you want to do is cook a burger.

Despite this flaw, we did love this Indoor grill. It made cooking dinner so much easier and convenient.

Pros

  • Can cook frozen foods
  • Heats up and cooks so fast
  • Takes VERY little space
  • Extremely Lightweight
  • Food doesn’t slide off
  • Comes with instruction and recipe books

Cons

  • Little Pricey

#2. George Foreman GGR50B – Large Indoor Grill

George Foreman is a reputable brand and we loved this countertop grilling machine. This is the best countertop grill we came across. While George Foreman GGR50B is good, it doesn’t match the performance of T-Fal GC70.

It is designed to be used both indoors and outdoors thanks to its removable stand. The stand can be connected to the grill for outdoor use and detached when you want to grill on the kitchen countertop. It even comes with an elevated countertop stand to prevent it from damaging your counters.

It also allows you to carefully adjust the temperature through 5 different heat settings & allowed us to cook our food accurately. We were somewhat disappointed that the grill did not allow us to set the exact temperature we wanted.

This Indoor grill also comes with a removable plate, which makes cleaning fairly easy. We particularly loved how huge this grill was. Compared to other models, this grill is gigantic. It has enough room for 15 servings, which I’d massive by any standard.

However, this also meant that George Foreman GGR50B took up more space than many other options. This can be a problem for some, especially if you’re living in a smaller apartment. If you just don’t have the countertop space for a large grill, this one might not be for you. However, if you do have the room, we really recommend this grill.

The biggest complaint we have about this grill is the length of the cord. It was just a few feet too short for our needs, so we had to use an extension cord. While this wasn’t a huge hassle, it could easily become one if you want to grill indoors often.

The circular design also wasn’t to our liking. It took up more room than was necessary and we had difficulty fitting everything in the sink to be washed. It would be a much better grill if it was rectangular.

This grill carries a 3-year warranty and even if you come across a problem, the customer service of this brand is good. We expect it to last for five years. As it is made up of just aluminum and plastic so it won’t rust, and electric griddles last that long.

Pros

  • Heats up quickly in 3-5 minutes
  • Cooks food thoroughly
  • Completely electric
  • Adjustable Temperature Control
  • Indoor/Outdoor Removable Stand

Cons

  • Central grease channel clogs often
  • The cord could be longer

#3. Zojirushi EB-CC15 Indoor Grill – Best for the Money

When it comes to choosing a grill with features like large, nonstick grilling surface, & dishwasher safe looks no other than Zojirushi EB-CC15. This grill is also a lot safer than some of the other models we looked at. Hence we think this is the indoor grill which provides value for the money. It offers nearly the same thing as big brands but with half the price.

Unless it is installed correctly, it will not heat up. This prevents injuries and burns from improper installation. The side handles stay cool even when the grill is heated to the highest temperature. You never know when you’re going to need to scoot your grill over, so this feature was very useful.

This grill also lets you control the temperature. However, you can not select the exact temperatures. Instead, it provides “high”, “medium”, and “low” settings. While this is fine for most purposes, it can make following certain recipes difficult. It also takes a little while to get used to the heat settings. Its high cooking temperature cooks pretty well and seats your meat.

This Indoor grill also provides an amazing taste profile due to its ability to sear foods. It was very close to the taste an outdoor grill provides. This grill also produces zero smoke. We didn’t even have to open a window or use our kitchen vent.

Most of users think it is large but it fits perfectly on our stovetop during cooking.

We were somewhat disappointed by the power of this grill. It is not as high wattage as some other options, though it still does cook food well. This grill also takes a while longer to cook than we would like. Many of the other indoor grills were faster.

However, with that said, we were still impressed with this grill and would recommend it.

Pros

  • 176 to 410-degree heat range
  • Lightweight & Holds heat well
  • Grill plate design pulls the grease away from food
  • Long cord & Takes 10 minutes to heat fully
  • Cool-touch handles and base for easy transport

Cons

  • No Lid
  • Grease splatters quite a bit

#4. Hamilton Beach 25361 Electric Indoor Grill

Our favorite part about Hamilton Beach 25361 is the searing lid includes a tiny window that you can peek through. This window allows you to keep an eye on your food without having to open the lid and let the heated air escape. This feature shortens cooking times and helps trap the moisture inside the meat.

The lid is also high enough to prevent it from touching whatever meat your cooking, even thicker steaks and pork chops. This feature might not seem like a huge deal, but we found it very helpful, especially when we were getting used to the new grill.

This grill’s ability to sear is also phenomenal. It is difficult to find an indoor electric grill that has the same searing power as an outdoor one. Luckily, this one fits the bill. It also allows you to control the exact temperature.

Unlike other grills, it does not just allow you to choose “high”, “medium”, or “low”. Instead, you can choose the exact temperature you want, allowing you more control over how your food is cooked. This grill also gets extraordinarily hot. It is can reach temperatures many grills can’t, which is likely why it can sear so well. It is also only 1200 watts, which makes it useable in RVs.

Cleaning up this Indoor grill is also very easy. The plates are removable, allowing you to remove them for cleaning. All the removable parts are dishwasher safe, so there is no hand scrubbing necessary on your part.

The design of the grill plates allows the grease to drain away, preventing a buildup of grease around your food. This also makes clean up easier since there is less grease that needs to be washed away.

The only major problem we had was that the cord was rather short. You have to use this grill right next to an outlet or get an extension cord. For our purposes, this wasn’t a huge deal. But, we do see how the short cord could become annoying with repeated use.

It has 1 year repair and replacement warranty of material and defects covered if the product is purchased in US and for Canada warranty is 5 years.

Pros

  • Adequate cooking area
  • Heats up in around 5 minutes
  • Dishwasher safe removable parts
  • Even heat distribution

Cons

  • Short power cable
  • Cause a little smoke

#5. Hamilton Beach 25360

This is downgrade version of model 25361 which does not have windows with Stainless Still Lid. It is designed to sear meat and then lower to a cooler temperature to finish cooking, leaving your meats moist and delicious. It does have a controllable temperature gauge that allows you to pick the exact temperature you want the grill at.

Instead of having a “low”, “medium”, and “high” setting, this Indoor grill used actual temperature settings. We particularly liked this feature since it made it easier to figure out what temperature setting we needed the grill at. It also made following recipes that called for specific temperatures easier. After all, it is difficult to know what temperature “medium” is exactly.

The lid design was another one of our favorite features. It is extremely similar to an outdoor grill. The lid helps with heat retention and kept our meats particularly moist. It helped our meats cook faster without drying out. The lid is high enough that we could for anything under it. Even thick steaks f underneath the grill lid. We were also able to put cheese on our burgers without it ending up stuck to the lid.

The grill plate is well slotted and drained the large majority of the grease away from our food. The grease drains away, preventing dripping, greasy foods and splattering. This also made cleaning quite easy. We didn’t have to spend time scrubbing the grease away or anything of that sort.

The only major downfall was that this grill was not as durable as we had hoped. The heating element seems to get worn out rather quickly, which can make grilling impossible.

Pros

  • Removable parts are dishwasher safe
  • Power and preheat light
  • Extra large drip tray

Cons

  • The cord is rather short

#6.  Delonghi BG24 Perfecto

This Delonghi BG24 comes last on our list. This is not the best option for serious bbq lovers. But it can be certain for those who have a very tight budget wants to buy the cheapest options out there. This is the smallest indoor grill with the least cooking area.

This Indoor grill surprised us in many ways. It was one of the easiest to clean that we reviewed. Most parts are removable and dishwasher safe. The nonstick surface prevented out foods from sticking and also helped with clean up.

One of our favorite parts about the grill was the non-stick drip pan. Most grills of this sort have a system of channels that catch grease and direct it to a holding container. However, these channels often get clogged and can work significantly less well than we would have liked.

Luckily, this grill was not like that at all. It has a drip pan that spans the whole length of the cooking surface. You grill your meats on top and all the excess grease and fat drip onto the pan below.

This grill also comes with a tempered glass lid which helped the temperature rise faster and kept our food juicier while cooking. We also found that it helped our food stay warm after we grilled, which gave us time to finish up the other stuff we were cooking.

We also had trouble with the non-stick coating coming off. While it is dishwasher safe, we noticed that the coating was beginning to flake off after a month or so of heavy use. While this grill isn’t bad by any means, it is not our first recommendation.

Pros

  • Consistent heating
  • Temperature control

Cons

  • Inability to choose exact grilling temperature
  • Slow to preheat
  • Drip pan stains easily

Buying Guide

Type of Grill

There are two main types of grills for indoor use: open and contact.

Open grills

Open grills are the most similar to an outdoor grill. They are made up of a single grilling plate that you eat your food on to cook. Many come with a lid to help trap in moisture and retain heat. Just like an outdoor grill, you will have to flip your food to cook it on both sides. This type is ideal for those who want to stick as closely as possible to the tradition of grilling and who want to achieve the traditional BBQ flavor.

Contact grills

Contact grills are similar to open grills, but they have a plate built into the lid. You push the lid down and it makes contact with the meat, basically cooking it on two sides at once. This can make the food cook faster and prevents you from having to flip it. However, a lot can also go wrong with this design. Firstly, you can only grill pieces of meat that are within a certain size range. Not all tall steaks are going to fit in a contact grill. Secondly, there are also more things that can break. The more parts you have, the most things there are to mess up. Thirdly, this design loses some of the flavor of the meat, since you’re pressing all the juices out of it. This can make the meat taste rather dry.

One type is not necessarily better than the other. However, we recommend an open grill for most people who just want to grill indoors. While contact grills can be great, they also tend to be more than the average consumer needs.

Power

Without enough power, a grill will not be able to heat up properly or cook your food in a reasonable time. The last thing you want to do is spend 45 minutes cooking a burger, so it is vital that you pick a grill with enough power.

The ideal indoor electric grill is going to be between 1500 to 1800 watts. However, it is possible to find decent grills that are outside of this range. Generally, as long as a grill is above 1000 watts, it is going to be able to heat up at least decently well.

If you plan on using the grill in an RV, you will likely need one that is of lower wattage. Not all RVs can handle an 1800 watt grill. Still, remember that the lower the wattage, the harder time the grill is going to have heating up. Buy one with the largest wattage you can handle.

Size

Most grills are large enough for at least two people. However, depending on your needs, you might need a grill that is much bigger. If you have a larger family, you’re going to need a larger grill unless you want to spend hours cooking everyone’s meat separately.

At the same time, larger grills are going to take up more room on your countertop and are not practical for smaller kitchens. A small indoor grill might be useful for these situations.

Most people who use indoor electric grills likely live in smaller apartments so this can be a huge consideration.

Our suggestion: buy the biggest grill your kitchen can reasonably handle. Even if you don’t have a large family, having a grill that is able to entertain guests is always a plus.

Temperature Control

In the ideal situation, you would be able to control the exact temperature your grill heats up to. However, this is often not the case. Grills that are designed for indoor use are often smaller and compact, which means dials that control the temperature are often excluded.

Many grills only heat up to one, automatic temperature. This can be good if you don’t feel like dealing with a heat setting, but it can also underpin your cooking efforts. This fact is especially true if you often follow recipes that call for exact cooking temperatures.

Luckily, there are a few indoor electric grills that offer an adjustable heat setting. Many of these controls specify the particular temperature. However, some only have “high”, “medium”, and “low” options.

While this is better than not being able to control the temperature at all, it can still prove difficult to figure out what these settings actually refer to. Is 375 degrees medium or high, for example?

We recommend a grill that allows you to choose the exact temperature. However, because these are so few and far between, many consumers will likely be just fine with a grill that offers generalized heat settings.

Ease of Cleaning

Cleaning an indoor electric grill is almost always a pain. This can be especially true for inside grills because of their unique design. No one wants to spend all day scrubbing grease off of a grill, so it is vital that any grill your purchase is designed to be easy to clean. This feature is achieved in a number of different ways.

Firstly, many indoor electric grills come with removable grill plates and drip trays. This allows you to remove these pieces for cleaning and storage. It is far easier to be able to drip a grill plate in the sink than it is to scrub it while it is still attached to the grill.

Secondly, many grills are dishwasher safe. This means you really don’t have to do much cleaning at all. You can just remove the plates and drip tray and put them straight into the dishwasher.

Non-Stick Coating

This is also important for cleaning but is so vital that is deserves its own discussion. A non-stick coating is vital for any good grill. Without it, anything you cook will stick uncontrollably to the grilling plate, causing the food to break apart when you try to remove it and creating a huge mess. No one wants their seared outside crust to stick to their grill, so having a non-stick surface that works well is very important.

The non-stick surface should also stay on the grill. Many grills come with a non-stick surface, but it often begins chipping off within a month. This is not only bad for your food, but it can be a health hazard depending on what the non-stick surface is made out of.

The last thing you want is to consume flakes of the grill plate. This problem is especially problematic in grills that claim to be “dishwasher safe” but really aren’t.

Safety

When you’re working with any hot surface, safety should be your first priority. Many grills come with a variety of safety features. Some have handles that remain cool to prevent hand burns. Others only heat up if they are properly assembled. Hot surface indicator lights are quite common. Because of the wide array of safety features out there, it is nearly impossible for us to give you a definitive list of what you need. Instead, our advice is to listen to your instincts. If a grill doesn’t feel safe to use, it probably isn’t. More safety features are always better than less.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do indoor grills taste the same as outside grills?

Some indoor grills designed for indoor use are going to provide a more traditional grilled flavor than others. Many grills are designed to produce grill marks and lock in moisture, which helps with flavor. However, others taste nothing like an outdoor grill and can dry out your meat. The design of the electric griller really matters when it comes to flavor.

With that said, no countertop electric grill is going to taste exactly the same as an outdoor grill. This difference in flavor is due to one important missing component – smoke.

Smoke is important for flavoring meat. However, inside grills must be at least mostly free of smoke. Otherwise, they’d set off the smoke alarms and leave your house incredibly smoky. This makes the meat grilled on these inside grills taste different than meat grilled on an outdoor grill.

Of course, there are a couple of things you can add to your meat to achieve this smoky flavor even when cooking indoors, such as liquid smoke and smoked salts. It is possible to get meat grilled indoors to taste very similar to meat grilled outside. However, it does take purchasing a good grill and adding a few more seasonings to your meat.

Are indoor grills healthy?

Generally, cooking your meat on an inside grill is considered to be healthy. This is due to a number of factors. Firstly, grilling is one of the healthier ways to prepare meat. Grilling often results in fat and grease being pulled out of the meat, as opposed to methods like frying that keep the fat and grease inside the meat. Even cooking meat in an oven does not pull as much fat out of the meat as grilling does.

Consuming less grease is generally healthier than eating lots of it. Secondly, inside grills do not produce as many HCAs (Heterocyclic amines) as outdoor grills due. HCAs are created when flame and smoke touches meat and are considered to be carcinogens. Because electric grills are, well, electric, they do not produce as many HCAs.

Conclusion

Hopefully, you will able to find your best indoor electric grill after reading our buying guide and products reviews. Whatever option you pick. we made sure that every product is worth the money.
